Lovely spring weather
We have been experiencing lovely spring weather and my daffs are nearly out. Skiing has to be in the morning now as the pistes have turned to slush by lunchtime. It will not be long I think before some of them are closed as they are turning to mud and stones, but other slopes still have plenty of snow. This morning I attempted a long, steep mogul black and was quite puffed out by the time I made it to the bottom. This was a piste I have only ever done once before on my old Head skis 3 years ago and is one Chris won’t attempt because of his fear of heights. But one morning we did do part of the off piste section I skied with Graham, John and Terry. It was the final bit actually, where I had fallen every turn. This time there were no tumbles but the conditions were improved. Chris was well chuffed he had accomplished this and felt it was the highlight of this winter’s skiing.
Last night was my last baby stint for this season. I didn’t get Maddy to sleep till about 10.15 but she did sleep all night until she came in and woke me this morning at 7.15. That must be a first. I woke 3 times, however, the third time by a drunkard shouting outside which must have been about 4 in the morning.
The chaffinch is still around and still sitting on the door handle pecking at the window, although he does not sit there all day like he did the first week. This will be the third week he has been behaving in this manner but we have noticed he often chases away another male chaffinch who he obviously feels in encroaching on his territory. He has become quite tame and will come down into the tree by the patio and chirp loudly at us until we throw him a peanut. One of our resident crows has also become less timid. He sits and craws in our pine trees and we often see him scrapping with the magpies. One day last month when it was warm, I watched him tear the soft bark off one of our popular trees. To make a nest perhaps?
